These chocolate Oreo truffles are a huge hit at my family holiday parties every year. They are dangerously delicious and SO easy to make with just four ingredients!
Here’s what you need:
- One 14.3.oz package of Oreos
- One 8oz package of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 tsp is vanilla extract
- One 11.5oz bag of chocolate chips
Feel free to use whatever chocolate chips you like! I love to use milk chocolate chips because they taste so rich, but I have made these with dark chocolate chips and they were so decadent.
Here’s how you make them:
Start by crushing up your Oreos in a blender or food processor. If you don’t have one of those, crushing them up in a baggie using a rolling pin works great too! Try to get a nice fine crumb.
Next, add in the vanilla and softened cream cheese. I took mine out about an hour before I started making the truffles. Mix them all together to combine. I actually will use my hands here to make sure everything is cohesive. The mixture will form a soft ball of dough-like filling.
Once your filling is done, set up a lined cookie sheet and begin rolling out 1tbsp sized balls of filling. This recipe is enough to make 24 truffle balls. When you’ve rolled them all out, put them on the refrigerator for 2 hours to get them nice and firm. If you’re in a pinch for time, freezing for 30 minutes works as well.
When your filling balls are firmed up, get ready to dip in chocolate. You can melt the chocolate chips over a double boiler, or melt in a microwave save bowl in 30 second increments at 50% power, stirring in between. Keep a close eye on it thought to be sure it doesn’t burn.
Using a fork (or two!) gently dip the balls into the melted chocolate, covering all around, lift and gently scrape on the side of the bowl to get the excess chocolate off and place back onto your lined cookie sheet. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with any toppings you like. This time I used Oreo crumbles but these look lovely with a white chocolate drizzle! Once you’ve dipped all your truffles, return the the fridge for several hours or until the chocolate has hardened. I personally think they are best when chilled overnight.
Your family and friends are going to love these truffles. They are incredible and decadent for just four ingredients!
How to store:
These truffles hold up well in the fridge for up to a week in a sealed container, but they won’t last that long! You can freeze the filling balls to dip later on too, those are good for up to 3 months.
